School of Computing Week is an annual event held in iACADEMY every year. This year, it took place from May 7 to May 11 in iACADEMY’s main campus, with the school of computing organizations, SEAL and IGDA, as the event’s main organizers. The selected theme for this year’s School of Computing Week was the galaxy, hence, the event was entitled Adstrum, which is latin for the word “star.” Adstrum was used as the event’s title in order to commemorate how much iACADEMY’s School of Computing has grown over the years, and how the school will continue to aim higher like the stars above.
The following events that happened during Adstrum were as follows: Brainbusters I.T Edition, Hackathon, Bazaar and Gaming Competition, GDAP Roadshow, and the Seminar and Workshop Series.
The week started off with the Brainbusters I.T Edition Quiz Bee, where thirteen teams challenged and showed off their knowledge in the field of Information Technology. Later that day, a twenty four hour hackathon was held.Computing students formed their own teams, and were given a theme for an application that they were to develop in twenty four hours. This hackathon went on from Monday afternoon to Tuesday afternoon.
On Wednesday, a bazaar and gaming competition was opened for people to join in and to check out booths prepared for them by various student organizations, such as S.E.A.L, iMPACT, iJMA, and Optics This went on for the whole day, with the bazaar and gaming competition run by IGDA ran simultaneously.
Furthermore, GDAP(Gamer Developers Association of the Philippines), held an academic roadshow on Thursday, with IGDA and SEAL helping to organize the event. They had tabletop games by Balangay Entertainment for students to playtest, and held some seminars as well in the auditorium. Some of the topics discussed included: professional ethics, GDAP Updates,GameOn, Tabletop Games, and Experiential Games.
To conclude Adstrum, a series of seminars and workshops took place in the auditorium and on the seventh floor computer laboratories. There were four (4) seminars and three (3) workshops prepared for the students. The following are seminars and workshops that were held on Friday:
